EPL: Chelsea hammers Southampton as Arsenal and Man United flop
Chelsea thumped Southampton 6-0 in their 30th match of the Barclays English Premier League to tighten their grip on the third spot on the log.
The Blues got their first goal against the Saints through Spanish left wing-back Marcos Alonso, before English star Mason Mount doubled the lead. In the first half, Timo Werner struck before his compatriot Kai Havertz made it four for the visitors ahead of the break.
In the second half, Werner and Mount scored a goal each to make it 6-0 for the Blues. The win helped Thomas Tuchel bounce back from a 3-1 drubbing by Spanish giants Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge in their first leg encounter in the UEFA Champions League knockout tie. The European champions will travel to Santiago Bernabéu next week, hoping to reverse the unfavourable tie.
Elsewhere, Manchester United lost by a solitary goal to struggling Everton, dashing their hopes of redeeming a fight for a top-four finish. Arsenal also lost 2-1 to Brighton away.
