The governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has directed the Major of Juba City Council Michael Lado All-jabu to enforce the partial COVID-19 lockdown imposed by the national task force on coronavirus

On Tuesday, the Chairperson of the National Taskforce, Hussein Abdelbagi issued a partial lockdown that commenced on December 21, 2021, to January 10, 022.

In a statement seen by The City Review, shared on the governor’s office Facebook page, Adil authorised the mayor Alla-Jabu to consult with the leadership of the South Sudan Council of Churches to discuss how the churches can prevent the virus from spreading during prayer sessions.

The mayor said the Juba City Council would enforce the containment order, and that the JCC would continue to demolish structures that are extended to the roads and open major roads in the city to reduce traffic.

Willing to act

In the order issued by the national task force, Juba City Council and other municipal councils were directed to ensure traders, hotels, customers and the general public adhere to environmental cleanliness, as well as COVID-19 protocols and the partial lockdown measures.

According to Abdelbagi, the country has received enough vaccines that people can get them at specified public health facility locations across the country’s 10 states.

He noted that the majority of people seeking vaccines were foreign nationals and called on the citizens to benefit from the vaccine.

“We have 261 shots of J & J that you can get once present in the country. This week we found out that most of our people have not gone for the vaccine the foreigners went and today we learned that the foreigners are the majority who go for vaccination,” Abdelbagi stated.

He advised the public, especially those travelling to the states to get vaccinated or take a COVID test to prevent being delayed when asked for verification.
