The leadership of Sudan Liberation Movement (SPLM) at the three Administrative Areas – Abyei, Ruweng and Pibor, have been told to do everything humanly possible to make sure that party win majority seats in the upcoming election.

“We will ensure that the SPLM is victorious in the state of Upper Nile,” former South Sudan’s Ambassador to the USA, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth.

Gatkuoth was speaking during the swearing-in of Jonglei and Upper Nile States Governors, as well as Ruweng’s Chief Administrative Area.

“We must win elections in all administrative areas,” affirmed the former Petroleum Minister.

Gatkuoth stated that there is an electronic mapping system in place to determine areas where SPLM has strong support, before they go to the polls.

“If we make the three regions of South Sudan, then you will say we are strong here and we will be able to win the election by 90%,” added Gatkuoth who also challenged SPLM members to welcome those joining the party.

“I have seen some people among the SPLM who don’t want new members joining the party. There is no party that can reject other people. You bring them and convert them to believe in the party’s ideologies,” he said

Timothy Tot Chol, challenged the newly sworn governors to uphold the appointment by working hard and faithfully for peace and the general welfare of the people.

“You are not going to rule our people but to help them rule themselves. The implication of this is that you should always work with the people, and consult them on important matters that concern them so that they can own those decisions, plans and projects that you want.

Peter Lam Both, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Acting Secretary-General stated challenged the leadership to mobilize and unify the people.

“SPLM reorganisation is our priority. Don’t disorganize whatever we have organized in the states because you will have no time to organise it we are going for elections next year,” he said while emphasising the call for unity in the party.

“Focus on registration, don’t assume that everyone is a member of the SPLM. We have said to register 70 per cent of the population for you to guarantee that you will win. Even the stronghold areas of the SPLM that you used to know,” he added.
