A cattle raider in Rumbek North County, Lakes State has shot a payam chief dead after the raided cattle were recovered from him.

The chief had collected some of the looted cattle from the suspect to be returned to the owners in Tonj East County, Warrap State, said Moses Maker Magok, commissioner of Rumbek North County.

Magok said the deceased, who was the sub-chief of Wutreng Payam, went and collected some cattle that were earlier stolen by some suspected youth from Rumbek North.

“So yesterday, I ordered the chief to collect the looted cattle. Unfortunately, the chief, who collected some of the cows and went to the county headquarters, was ambushed by the thief from his clan,” he explained.

The commissioner said he had sent the security to apprehend the suspect to be brought to book.

“The message I would like to share with the family of the deceased is that they refrain from any revenge because they are from the same family, same clan, boma, and payam.”

“The law will take its course and deal with the suspect if he is apprehended,” Maker said.
