Cardinal Parolin delivers message to Bentiu IDPs

The Secretary of Vatican State, Pietro Parolin arrived at a warm reception in Bentiu, Unity State yesterday.

The cleric delivered his message of hope to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), according to the task entrusted to him by Pope Francis.

Speaking to the state government officials at the Unity State government secretariat, the cleric said his mission to the state was to restore hope to the IDPs affected by the conflict and floods.

“I am here to bring this presence of the Holy Father and to show the solidarity of the church through the diocese, bishops, priests, and all the partner agents of the diocese.” The solidarity and the will of the Catholic Church to help in any way is possible just to bring hope to the population,” Cardinal Parolin said.

“I thank you again for receiving us, giving us this possibility to stay with you and to share with you some hours of this day.”

The Deputy Governor of Unity State, Tor Tungwar Kueigwong, assured the Vatican Secretary of State of his assurance for the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan.

“As we are sitting here, we are one government comprising different political parties but we are charged with the responsibility to implement starting from me, my governor, advisors, ministers, the commissioners, but now we have taken the initiative of peace, we are seeing no more wars but peace,” Tor assured Cardinal Parolin.

“We are working day and night so that we can build and implement peace so that people will live in peace and they will be able to develop our country.”

He requested the leadership of the Vatican State led by Pope Francis to continue supporting victims of floods residing in Unity State.

“We would call upon the Vatican to continue with their kind support. They should also continue with their advocacy in order to help our people,” he concluded.

The Cardinal arrived in Juba on Tuesday and addressed South Sudanese at Juba International Airport saying that the Pope was concerned about the plight of South Sudanese.

“His Holiness is concerned about reconciliation and peace in South Sudan.” He is following the good developments that are taking place with you, with the population of the church and the authorities, who need his spiritual support. “Thank you very much and God bless all of you,” he told the faithful.
