Sixteen Bright Stars senior national team players have started preliminary training for the upcoming two Dubai-friendly matches.

Former Gor Mahia striker Okella Tito Odong and goalkeeper Juma Jenaro Awad have already joined the home players, as Coach Cusin expects others to join soon.

The Bright Stars’ head coach, Stefano Cusin, will be expecting his first international game since taking charge of the national team last year.

Other players likely to join the squad soon are Peter Maker Manyang (Zisco United FC, Zambia), and Machop Malual. Peter Chol (Atlanta FC, USA), Abraham Majok (Australia), Maker Marial Maker (Atmofera FC in Lithuania) and many more.

Twelve home-based players have been called up for the team and they include Ramadan (Malakia FC, Juba), Omot Sebit David (El Merriekh, Juba), Rehan Angier Malong (Munuki FC), Dominic Angelo Kornelio (Munuki FC), William Gama Emmanuel (Malakia FC), Samuel Taban Malish (Kator FC), Jose Kuch Nyuar (Munuki FC), Mutwakil Abdelkairm (Atlabara FC), Vitali Poulino (Rainbow FC, Juba), Michael Marko (Amarat United FC) and Obony Along Achuil (Gudele FC).

The kickoff training was attended by South Sudan Football Association Vice President, Charles Udwar, and other senior members of the board of directors members.

Last week, the SSFA revealed that the Bright Stars Senior Men’s Team will play friendly matches against Kuwait and Azerbaijan in FIFA’s window break this month.

“FIFA has confirmed that the country’s national senior men’s team will be playing two friendly matches in Dubai against Kuwait and Azerbaijan,” SSFA Acting Deputy Secretary-General, Joseph Apai, told The City Review.

“The players were already selected, both local, regional, and international.” The home players are already here, and other outside players will be arriving shortly before the 21st of this month. Training will kick off immediately, while their trip to Dubai will be confirmed later, “he added.

This time, South Sudanese fans are waiting to see whether the Bright Stars’ Janney will be successful following last year’s disappointment.

In November last year, the Bright Stars’ journey to Dubai was postponed after the 29-man squad failed to get visas.

South Sudan was supposed to play two friendlies against the Gambia and Algeria. Their first match was to be played against the Gambia on a Saturday, followed by a game against Algeria.
