Bright Starlets to clash with Tanzania, Ethiopia in CECAFA Champs
The national women’s football team has landed in relatively easy following the draws of the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship.
Bright Starlets will face off with Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Zanzibar at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda.
The event that was last held in 2019, will run between May 22nd and June 5th.
Host She-Cranes lead a tough Group A that also includes Rwanda, Burundi, and Djibouti.
Harambee Starlets of Kenya will not partake of the tournament. Kenya, the CECAFA reigning champions are currently suspended by FIFA over government interference following the arrest and subsequent arraignment of the Kenyan FA boss, Nick Mwendwa.
Mwendwa was removed from office over corruption related charges.
Kenya beat Kilimanjaro Queens of Tanzania 2-0 in the 2019, the last time the tournament was held.
Despite the absence of defending champions, organizers warn that competitive will be gruelling for participating teams.
The tournament will also give Burundi and Uganda opportunity to prepare for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON)
