BREAKING: Gatwech claims victory in fresh Upper Nile battle

The Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) under the leadership of Gen. Simon Gatwech has claimed that its forces have defeated their counterparts loyal to Riek Machar in another fresh battle in Upper Nile State.
In a statement seen by The City Review, Gatwech claimed that his forces “totally dismantled” Machar’s group.
“The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) sends a million congratulations to the gallant forces of the SPLA (IO) under the overall command of Gen. Paromi Angui Otien for completely dismantling and totally annihilating the dark forces of Dr Riek Machar in Upper Nile State,” read a statement seen by The City Review in part.
“I take this opportunity to inform you that his forces no longer have a presence in Northern Upper Nile. Congratulations once again to commanders, officers, soldiers, and freedom fighters for a job well done,” the statement continues.
When called by The City Review, SPLA-IO Spokesperson from Machar’s faction, Col. Lam Paul Gabriel could not comment on the matter.
This is one of the many alleged clashes involving the two SPLA-IO factions since the signing of the Khartoum Agreement with the government.
