Bor, Terekeka wrestling match suspended
Jonglei State government has cancelled the much anticipated wrestling match between Terekeka and Bor counties over security concerns.
The authorities cited rampant cattle raids and child abduction in the state as major concerns, saying the match could entice the youth to Juba and Terekeka, making the areas vulnerable to the raiders.
The match, pitting the Greater Bor Wrestling team against their Terekeka opponents, was scheduled to take place on May 21, 2022, in Terekeka. The match aimed to create unity and social interaction between the two counties.
The acting governor of Jonglei State, Antipas Nyok Kucha, said they had presented their complaint to the government of Central Equatoria State and it had been accepted.
“We, therefore, request your esteemed authority to excuse our team to enable our youth to protect people’s lives and their property due to the rampant insecurity caused by cattle raids and child abductions in the state,” Antipas stated.
Chol Jeep, the Chairperson of the Jonglei Wrestling Association, said they have agreed with the decision made by the state government.
“We are mourning with our people for the recent tragic incident that befell our community due to the insecurity in the state,” Chol
“After we mourn and feel like the time is right, then we would visit the office of the acting governor and discuss the rescheduled wrestling match,” he stated.
