Back-to-school campaign launched in Aweil
The Ministry of General Education and Instruction in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has launched a back-to-school campaign in Aweil East County.
Dhel Peter Mangok, the Deputy Press Secretary in the office of Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Tong Akeen Ngor, said the event was organised in a collaboration with United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
“The State Minister of General Education and Instruction, Santino Bol Akok, appreciated the National Minister of General Education and Instruction, Awut Deng Achuil for her tireless support to improve the education sector in the country and particularly in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State,” Dhel said.
The education minister encouraged parents to send their children back to school, directing teachers to create a conducive environment for pupils as the ministry continues with the renovation of schools.
In April 2022, a Director at the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Mark Malual Deng, said enrolment of candidates for the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (SSCSE) had risen compared to previous years as the number of candidates stood at 1,778.
However, female candidates were fewer than male candidates. There were 1,164 male candidates and 614 female candidates from the 23 different secondary schools in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
But the Minister did not disclose the number of candidates to The City Review.
The governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Tong Akeen Ngor, said he was impressed by the number of students who sat for exams, and encouraged them to work hard and attain the pass marks needed for admission into the universities.
