Aweil police detain two Kenyans over fistfight in plane

Police in Aweil town, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, arrested two Kenyan nationals on Saturday.
The area police spokesperson, Guot Guot Akol, said they are investigating the two Kenyans who travelled from Juba International Airport to Aweil.
“We are now investigating two Kenyans, Nicolas Wamwangi Kagema, 30 years old, and Kelvin Kimani Burugu, 29 years old. “These people waited for 30 minutes, and when the flight took off, they started fighting inside the aeroplane,” Akol explained.
According to Akol, the fight scared everyone on board, and some people suspected the two men were terrorists because no one could have imagined people fighting inside a plane under any circumstances.
He said the men were arrested, leaving passengers with a lot of hanging questions about what they had just witnessed.
“We tried investigating them and their excuse behind the fight was very raw. They claimed to be drunk, but the statement we got from the passengers is that there was no indication of these two people being drunk while at the airport in Juba, and they were even friendly to each other, “he added.
He added that the suspects also refused to explain the reasons why they travelled to Aweil or who they had come to visit in Aweil. All they said was that ‘‘we just wanted to see Aweil’’.
Akol said Nicolas Wamwangi Kagema’s passport indicates that he had travelled to the Kingdom of Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, several times.
However, there was no indication that showed that Kelvin Kimani Burugu had travelled to any country.
“I will leave this investigation to the International Police (INTERPOL) because it is their mandate to investigate any foreign suspicion,” he revealed.
He said the Kenyan Community in Aweil were informed about the incident and were following up with the police.
