Authorities free and hand over abducted Kenyan herders
South Sudanese authorities recovered and repatriated two Kenyan herders who were allegedly abducted by armed raiders from Toposa at Natumamong in Lokichoggio, Turkana County, on Wednesday last week.
According to the Kenyan media, the two were herding animals when they were ambushed by armed militants who disappeared with them into South Sudan.
“The raiders had crossed over from the neighbouring country. We reached out to authorities in South Sudan who helped us trace the victims and handed them back,” Lokichoggio Assistant Commissioner Antony Mutuura said, as quoted by The Standard.
South Sudan’s security forces managed to retrieve the victims near the Nadapal border point, the Kenya media revealed.
South Sudanese officer in charge of immigration, Johny Bior, said: “It the responsibility of security agencies from both countries to protect the lives and properties of citizens.”
