Atlabara head coach, Peter Akon has resigned. The resignation has come as a blow to the club, which has showcased impressive performance, being the only unbeaten club in the Juba Local League this season.
In the past four seasons, the club faced various internal challenges, including mismanagement from the top hierarchy.
However, the coach brought in some fresh breath and pride to the club, making an appearance at the continental’s CAF champions league preliminary rounds in the glory days.
The future of the club looked brilliant during the season, including the style of play and consistency; as the coach peeked courage and unlocked talent.
Akon was among the dedicated coaches in the league. Many in the local footballing arena saw him as a passionate leader, who inspired the club into performance and to progress.
When contacted by the City Review Sports Desk on Tuesday, and asked why he made the decision to resign, Akon said he was displeased by the way he was treated by the club’s management.
He added that despite his dedication and contribution to the club, being depended on by the club during crucial moments, he only learnt that the management were planning to bring in a new coach, at a time the club was performing well under him.
“When I heard that they are bringing in a new coach, I told myself, I’m not going to tolerate this anymore. I was not comfortable with the attitude towards me and their mistreatment,” he told this publication during the Tuesday evening phone interview.
Akon took over the club last season just when it remained with two games to the end of season. The club ended up beating Zalzal 3:0and losing to Kator 3:2.
According to Akon, when there was no coach to come up, the management sort for him to offer solution.
“When the season was about to start, they called me. But I told the board that they should involve me in signing up new players. Without this, I would not accept,” he said, and added:
“They accepted the request, that I be involved in the transfers, and I took part in the two weeks trials of the new signings.”
Rumor mills are now rolling on who will take up the reigns of Atlabara after Akon’s exit. But unconfirmed reports suggest that the former Merriekh coach, Moro, would be the man to take the helm on interim basis until December, before club makes a dig at a new coach.
When contacted over the next course of action after their coach’s resignation, Atlabara club secretary was unreachable by the time of going to press.
“When the season was about to start, they called me. But I told the board that they should involve me in signing up new players. Without this, I would not accept,” Peter Akon, former Atlabara coach.
