Another earthquake hits South Sudan

South Sudan has been hit by another earthquake in the early morning hours of Friday. The earthquake of an unknown magnitude shook various parts of the country, including the capital Juba at 3 am local time.
Many residents in and out of Juba confirmed that they experienced rattling and vibration on the earth’s surface.
“Yeah, I felt. Very explosive sounds heard first followed by tremors. We need an expert to examine the potential earthquake at epicentre here in Rajab hill,” Debid Deng, a resident in Juba said.
Adil Stephen, another resident, confirmed feeling the tremors saying “Today’s earthquake was very fast and heavy, everything in my room was shaking. This needs to be investigated by authorities.”
“My roof was shaking, shaking, and shaking. My bed almost overturned with me. I thought someone was stealing my solar panel on top of my roof. But the noise didn’t continue when I jumped off my bed,” Francis Mading Chol said.
Joseph Africano Bartel, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, called on responsible authorities to consider measures to minimize the impact of a possible major earthquake.
“Increase in the frequency of these quakes are alarming. Our Civil Defense Departments have to put together Earthquake Preparedness measures for Individuals, Organizations and communities to minimize the impacts of a major one,” Africano said in a tweet.
The earthquake followed a similar incident that occurred in 2021 around the capital Juba at around 21:19 GMT according to AllQuakes, an earthquake-monitoring website.
The site categorized the previous tremor at the magnitude of 3.6 with a depth of 10.0 kilometres, at latitude 4.7961°North and longitude 31.5732°East in Central Equatoria State of South Sudan.
