English Premier League champions Manchester City annihilated Arsenal with a 5-0 drabbing at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon.
Mikel Arteta’s men had registered an impressive result against West Bromwich Albion in mid-week—where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a hat trick— and they were hoping to continue with the same impressive performance but it never came to pass.
It only took seven minutes for the German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to crack the Gunners defence and put the Blues ahead. Spanish attacker Ferran Torres doubled the lead in the 12trh minute before Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus made the game unmatchable for the visitors with a third strike in the 43rd minute. The hosts went down the tunnel with a comfortable lead licking their lips for what promised to be an opportunity to bag as many goals as possible to open up a goal difference margin against other contenders.
In the second half, the Gunners who had been reduced to 10 men after Granit Xhaka got dismissed conceded a fourth, this time from a shot fired by Rodri several yards out which proved unmanageable for Bernd Leno.
Ferran Torres netted a brace and a fifth goal for the Blues to wrap up a mission to pile misery on Arsenal. Man City moves to the top of the table ahead of other teams such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs who are yet to play their third games.
Arsenal remains bottom of the league with zero points after losing three opening matches against Brentford, Chelsea and now Manchester City.
