Outgoing president of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) Francis Amin has said he intends to venture in sports managerial roles after failing to clinch a second term.

Mr Amin said at the ballot is normal and cannot deter him from focusing on sports managerial duties and enhancing sports activities in the country.

“Congratulation to my colleague for winning the SSFA presidential election as well as his deputy president and easy to my fellow losers,” said Mr Amin, as he congratulated Gen. Augustino Maduot Parek, who clinched the seat.

He obtained only 4 votes out of possible 37 votes behind Gen. Maduot and Lual Maluk who both acquired 20 and 11 respectively.

Amin, Shafiq Gordon and Peter Achuil were knocked out in the first round after getting 4, 2 and 0 votes respectively.

SSFA law stipulates that a candidate must reach 50+1 per cent to win the position. But first-round went with no candidate meets the threshold, prompting a second-round vote which Gen. Parek then won by a landslide.

Free and fair

However, Mr. Amin conceded the election was free and fairly, adding that it was now his time to ‘‘relax and do something somewhere for the same purpose’’.

“Me being out of the association does not mean that I am bad man, no! [It is] just because everything has the time, [and] it is my time to relax and your time to work; it is my time to support you and give you the advice and that is how life moves [on],” he said as he addressed the incoming officials.

“I think it is time for me to go back to my club. I have my club, Atlbara football club; and from here I will be going back and continuing from there. We [will] meet anywhere with some of my colleagues,” former SSFA President Amin revealed.

He went further appealing to the International world football governing body, FIFA, to give more support to the new administration.

“My request to you FIFA and CAF [is] that you need to continue supporting the newly elected leaders just like you have been supporting me,” he appealed.

He pledged to support the new leadership.

“I will officially come to you in the office (new president) and hand over the office to you.’’

“We are ready to support you to make sure that South Sudan Football Association is in right place,” he concluded.

He exits after four years at the helm of the country’s football body and Gen. Parek will serve for the next four years.
