Africa Union chair Macky Sall in Juba
Senegalese President Macky Sall has arrived in the capital, Juba, marking his first visit to the country struggling with the implementation of the peace agreement to bring peace to its population.
President Sall was received by his counterpart, President Salva Kiir at Juba International Airport on Monday afternoon.
The purpose of the visit remains unknown.
However, the visit of Sall who is also the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) came at a time South Sudan is experiencing myriad challenges stemming from peace implementation, subnational conflict, and recent confusion over the dredging and Jangeli Canal resumption.
President Sall’s visit to Juba could mean a lot in stirring parties to the revitalized peace agreement to move a step forward in the implementation of, especially, critical provisions of the deal including the security arrangements, and permanent constitution-making process.
“We are aware that the African Union has a big role to play in helping South Sudanese part to transform the current situation we are into a politically stable situation through implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan,” Said Edmund Yakani, CEPO Executive Director.
