The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has promised to redouble civil servants’ salaries.

Adil encouraged employees to work hard for the development of the state and the entire country.

In a press statement issued by the governor’s office, and seen by The City Review, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, said the salary increment will fit the current economic crisis for the civil servants to meet their needs.

He did not mention when the increment would come into effect.

In July, President Salva Kiir increased the salaries of civil servants by 100 per cent.

Adil made the statement while inspecting the staff and facilities of Yei River County Hospital on Monday, where he encouraged the staff to be patriotic while providing services to the people.

“Our first priority as the government of Central Equatorial State is to strengthen the healthcare system and provide essential services to our local population. We are working to see that the civil servants’ salaries are redoubled, “Adil said.

He also promised to address the issue of drug shortages in the facilities as well as medical-related challenges affecting the hospital.

The Medical Director of Yei River Hospital urged the state government to create a conducive working environment for the staff.

“We trying our best to make sure that our people here get services, but the problem is that sometimes we are running out of drugs and we depend on the development partners,” said the official, identified as Dr Joseph.

He claims that the salary they receive is insufficient to cover the family’s expenses for the entire month.

In October, the national government approved a new salary structure for civil servants and army officers with a 100 per cent increment effective September 29, 2021.

On July 9, President Salva Kiir said all the civil servants’ and organised forces’ salaries would be increased by 100 per cent in the first phase, immediately when the economy improves.

He made the statement during the state of the nation address on the 10th anniversary of the independence celebration.

The Minister of Public Service and Human Resources Development, Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro, recently said that getting that increased salary will depend on the money sent by the Ministry of Finance and Planning, adding that the ministry of public service had done its work.

He said the increment meant doubling the salaries in compliance with the promise the government made when South Sudan turned 10 years old.
