A gang of heavily armed criminal suspects are awaiting arraignment in court after they were arrested following a series of robberies in juba and its outskirts.
The 34 suspects are made up of former military personnel drawn from South Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda. The suspects are currently cooling their heels in national security detention at Blue House in Jebel to allow the police to conduct further investigations.
The suspects were arrested last week on Tuesday after a series of robberies that included a bank and a petrol station. They allegedly stole SSP49.3 million ($170,000) from the bank and SSP7 million from the petrol station.
The suspects were arrested while driving in a Landcruiser stolen from the residence of a high-ranking police officer in Juba.
The gang is also suspected to have been involved in the murder of a prominent businessman in the city.
The suspects were armed with PKMs, rifles and pistols, which have since been confiscated by the national security force as part of the exhibits to be produced in court.
The 34 men also had in their possession military fatigues.
The arrests were confirmed by the police Spokesperson Maj-Gen Daniel Justin, who read out the order.
