Torit Municipality start on market clean up
The Torit Municipal Council in Eastern Equatoria State has started the general cleaning of the market.
The four garbage sites in the market had not been cleaned for nearly two years, the authorities have said.
Ramsey Omoo, Chief Inspector -Torit Municipality, said that the state has set up mechanisms to ensure that the there is frequent collection.
“This pit behind the markets has been there for two years now despite the complaints of some residents who are in Hai Khorton and the business community,’’ Omoo told state-owned radio station – 97.5 FM.
Ramsey said they decided to conduct the general cleaning after receiving complaints from the residents.
“These people seem like nobody wants to solve this problem, and unless I bring some brief demonstration of work on how to go about it to collect all this garbage from the town.”
Regina Kasmioro, one of the residents of Hai Khorton, has welcomed the initiative and hailed the municipal for carrying out the activity in the area, which she believes will prevent people from getting some dangerous diseases.
‘‘Somebody will bring the rubbish from somewhere and just come and dump it here, especially for us, and even when somebody wants to move, it will make it difficult for the people to move as all roads are filled with garbage and even the car cannot move,” he stated.
“We are now very much happy with the concerned authorities of the municipal and we thank all of you for what you have done today.” Today you came and removed the garbage. We are happy.”
