14-year-old girl raped by four men in Aweil

A 14-year-old teenage girl was briefly hospitalized after getting gang-raped by four unidentified men in Aweil, Northern Barh el Ghazal State.

Aweil Police Spokesperson Capt. Guot Guot Akol told The City Review in a phone interview that the rape incident occurred at 2 pm on Monday in Barmayen Payam of Aweil County.  

“The victim along with other three girls went to the market to sell milk and after they sold their milk, they purchased goods needed and left the market,” he narrated.

Guot explained that the girls were being pursued by the four youth. After trekking for some distance, the youth who were on motorbike stopped and started attacking the girls.

“The two girls ran as fast as they could. Unfortunately, the boys captured the victim and one person raped her while others were holding her tied,” he said.

The spokesperson said local residents came to the girl’s rescue after hearing an alarm. The suspected perpetrators had fled the scene at the time, leaving their motorbike behind.

Guot said after thorough investigations, the police managed to apprehend the suspects on Tuesday at 3 am after the law enforcement authorities identified the perpetrators through their motorbike.

 The suspects are currently behind bars at Aweil Prison pending further investigations. However, Guot could not reveal their names to avoid jeopardizing investigations.

Meanwhile, the rape victim whose name is withheld for ethical reasons has been treated and discharged.
